This is a mod “dolly rocker” style mini dress made of black chiffon and satin.  The sleeves are made of chiffon and have a slight puff at the shoulder and are cut very wide to create a wonderful semi-transparent look.    They have a satin cuffs that close with three silver toned metal buttons.  The chiffon is over an acetate base under the waist for the skirt area, but unlined above the waist.  The back is revealed through the chiffon while the front would be visible, but is hidden by the black satin panels hanging down from the neckline - still, you would want to wear something opaque underneath.  The bodice has decorative stitching in vertical rows down the front.  The dress has a wide pointy collar.  The skirt of the dress has a slight flare to the hemline.  The dress does up the back with a nylon zipper.  There are large loops for a wide belt, but no belt is provided.

Label: The Factory Made in Canada.  The Factory was a Montreal based label aimed at a young, boutique buying market, fashioned on the Mary Quant Ginger model.  It appears that the label was started in 1970 although the dress has the look of a 1960s dress - I would assume that this dates to 1970-1971. Sizing: No size is indicated, but according to my measurements, this should fit a a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  14” across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam - shoulder cap should extend slightly into the puff of the sleeve

Sleeves:  25 1/2” long from the shoulder seam to the cuff

Sleeve inseam:  19”

Bust:  35” around, taken under the arms

Waist:  28” around

Hips:  36” around

Overall length:  32", measured flat

Condition:  It is in very good, clean condition with no wear, tear, holes, stains or odors.  This dress has been very well cared for and stored over the years.  

This is an excellent example of a 60s “dolly rocker” style mod dress - young yet sophisticated at the same time!
